Doug Naselroad, Master Luthier and Founder, Appalachian School of Luthiery
Doug Naselroad has been making stringed instruments since 1969. After opening Naselroad Guitars in Mt. Sterling, KY in 1979, Doug developed a signature line of stringed instruments and door harps that have been sold around the world. In 2012, Doug was selected as the Appalachian Artisan Center’s Master Artist in woodworking and it wasn’t long before he founded the Appalachian School of Luthiery located on Main Street in Hindman, KY.
In 2016, the Appalachian School of Luthiery was recognized with an ArtWorks Grant by the National Endowment for the Arts. The School’s Hindman Dulcimer Project also won the prestigious Governor’s Award in the Arts for folk heritage in 2016. Doug won the 2017 Homer Ledford award for excellence in luthiery given bi-annually by Western Kentucky University. In 2018, he led in the Culture of of Recovery program, funded by ArtPlace America to help individuals in recovery. In 2019, Doug became Director of the new Troublesome Creek Stringed Instrument Company. He is passionate about his work.
